The German government seems to have concluded plans to repatriate 30,000 Nigerians

The German government has reportedly proposed a new system of repatriation called ‘Return and Re-admission’ aimed at facilitating the smooth return of about at least 30,000 Nigerian migrants who illegally entered the country.
Daily Trust quotes Geoffrey Onyeama, the foreign affairs minister, as disclosing this on Tuesday, May 15, when he received the security adviser to the president of Germany, Jan Hecker, and his team in Abuja.

According to him, the German government proposed the new plan after the perceived failure of the current system to ensure smooth repatriation.
The report said the current process involves both the participation of Nigerian embassy and consulate as well as the German immigration office.
“They don’t have enough faith and confidence in the process that we have at the moment for the repatriation process.
“Some of the delays they believed were with the mission and consulate in Germany,” the minister said adding that in the last two years, only 200 Nigerians have returned to the country out of the about 30,000.
It was learnt that Jan Hecker said he was in Nigeria to for the purpose of bilateral relations especially as it concerns issues of migration.
